ITZY is a 5-member K-Pop girl group under JYP Entertainment, consisting of Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong and Yuna. They debuted on February 11, 2019, with the single album IT'z Different. What gets K-Pop fans into groups is several things, but some of the reasons are members or songs. ITZY’s initial popularity was from their agency, as JYP is one of the leading K-Pop entertainment companies.
After the release of IT’z Different followed the release of more albums: IT’z ICY, IT’z Me, Not Shy, Guess Who, Crazy in Love, Checkmate, Cheshire, and Kill My Doubt, along with an English album, five Japanese albums and several releases (1). Right now, they have a total of 47 wins for all their title tracks (the main song in the album). Groups get wins when their songs are popular enough to be put on music shows, where fans then vote for them, and the group with the most votes gets the win (2). Another factor in music shows are album sales. The most album sales ITZY has is with their newest release, Kill My Doubt, which has sold 1,293,092 albums currently (3).
After ITZY’s debut, they quickly picked up popularity. Midzy (ITZY’s fandom name) [redacted for privacy] states that the thing that got her into ITZY was their music and the message they gave. ITZY’s earlier songs all had a recurring theme of loving yourself and not letting people tell you what you should be. When asked why she decided to stan ITZY, [redacted for privacy] stated that it was because “Yeji caught my eye and I just thought that these songs are going to change the world.” (4)
ITZY has been rocking the K-Pop industry for five years now, not showing signs of slowing down. Their songs have touched several people, not just fans. Their concept and sound have amazed millions, and they have broadened their fanbase over several continents. Their album sales have skyrocketed, and they get more wins with each comeback. As they continue to grow, fans hope that they can keep their initial concept of loving yourself.
